Instructions for Uploading PowerPoint Presentations into WebCT

Before you begin the process of uploading your PowerPoint files into WebCT, check your presentation thoroughly for any corrections or changes that need to be made. Once the presentation is in WebCT, your ability to make changes to the presentation is somewhat limited and will require you to edit html code. If you need to make any changes, you will need to either locate the specific file under Manage Files and use the HTML Editor, or edit the original PowerPoint file and repeat the steps for uploading presentations. 

These instructions are for Microsoft PowerPoint 2002.


Save your presentation as a web page

  1. Start with a completed PowerPoint presentation of which you have saved a normal copy. To make any major changes to the presentation in the future you will need to go back to this file. 

  2. Once you have saved the presentation as a PowerPoint file, go to File > Save as Web Page

  3. Choose a location for saving the file.

  4. Click Publish.

  5. Click Web Options.

  6. Click the Files tab and make sure Organize supporting files in a folder is checked. Click OK.

  7. Under the Browser support heading, choose All browsers listed above.

  8. Click Change if you wish to edit the Page title. 

  9. Click Publish. 

Zip the files of your presentation (This requires WinZip, but your computer should already have WinZip installed as we preinstall it on our images. Contact User Support if you don't already have it.) 

  1. The steps above will create one *.htm (html) file and a folder containing supporting files. Browse to the folder where you have saved these files. Right-click on the folder that contains the supporting files and choose Add to Zip

  2. Click Add.

  3. In the WinZip window, click the Add button.

  4. Locate the *.htm file for your presentation and click the next Add button. 

  5. Close WinZip. 

Upload your zip file into WebCT

  1. In your course, go to Manage Files (located under Designer Links or in the Control Panel).

  2. Click the Upload file button.

  3. Click Browse, locate your zip file, choose the destination folder and click Open.

  4. Now that you've selected the correct file name and folder, click Upload.

  5. In the Manage Files window, select your zip file, click the Unzip button under Options: Files. 

  6. Choose the folder that you want the presentation unzipped to and click Unzip.

  7. Now you have the *.htm file and the folder of supporting files in the folder that you chose within WebCT. You should delete the zip file now from the WebCT file manager in order to save space on the server. You must link to the *.htm file of the presentation from an organizer page or content module in your WebCT course before students can view the presentation. 

Link the presentation to a page inside your course

  1. Click Add Page or Tool (located either under Designer Links or in the Control Panel).

  2. Choose Single Page and click Add.

  3. Enter a title for your page, click Browse and select the main *.htm file of the presentation.

  4. Click Add Selected.

  5. Choose where you want to display the link in the course, and select an appropriate icon.

  6. Click Add.
