About the TLC
The Center began in 1991 as the Office for Effective Teaching. Its three faculty co-directors were charged with defining good teaching, considering teaching as a scholarly activity, and recommending means for assessing, supporting, and acknowledging good teaching. Their work resulted in a permanent Center and a
variety of professional development services.
The Center's director, Dr. John Bird, is assisted by Dr. Gary Stone, Coordinator of the Faculty New to Winthrop Program, Ms. Lisa Cowart, Coordinator of the Welcome to Winthrop orientation program for new staff, and Ms. Dana Bruneau, Program Coordinator.
The Center, which is part of University College, reports to Dean Gloria Jones.
Mission Statement
