Final Exams are Here

Final exam time is a stressful, anxious, and exciting time.  These comprehensive exams given in every class cause concernstudent studying in the library for students.  They are anxious to see how the semester ends.  They are also excited about the holiday break, returning home, and completing a semester of college.  This is a time when students often pull all-nighters, neglect eating properly, and in turn are incredibly sensitive and irritable.  Here are some tips on how to prepare yourself for your student’s final exams.

  1. It may be possible, before the exams begin, to ask what their exam schedule is and to discuss a plan of attack.  Discussing the best strategy for studying and not lecturing them is the best way to express your ideas without taking control.

  1. You can access the exam schedule here.  If your student has 3 exams in one day, they can go to the Office of Records and Registration and get a written consent to change the time of one of the exams.

  1. Be supportive.  Briefly call or email to let them know you are thinking of them.  They are going to be busy, so don’t take it personally if they don’t have time to talk.  Also, don’t bombard them with questions about the exams.  This will only cause more stress.

Textbook Tips
 The Bookworm

The Spring semester is right around the corner and it is not too early to start looking for text books.  Your student should already have his/her class schedule.  Now, you can provide him/her with these tips to be a savvy shopper and save you some money.

  1. Get to the Bookworm early or shop online. The earlier you shop, the better selection of used books, which are much cheaper.
  2. The Bookworm should have a list of necessary books for your student’s registered classes. However, if not, your student can contact the professor for the required texts. Here is a link to the faculty email directory.
