Consider Winthrop’s Residence Halls Your Best Housing Alternative!

Twelve Good Reasons to Live On Campus . . .

CONVENIENCE – Students have a busy schedule.  Living in the residence halls ensures that they will be close to classes, extracurricular activities, Crawford Health Services, Dinkins Student Center, Eagle Express Convenience store, the library and campus events.  Living on campus also means not having to worry about finding a place to park if they are late for class.  Since a MicroFridge® is provided in the rooms, you can stock your students up with snacks when you come to visit.

BETTER GRADES - The Department of Residence Life is committed to providing students with the resources and environment to complement their academic work.  Research indicates that when students live on campus, they tend to achieve higher grades and are more likely to complete college and graduate.

DINING SERVICES – Four dining service locations offer a variety of food on a daily basis including name brands such as Bene Pizza, Subway, Freshens Yogurt and Ice Cream, Orville and Wilbur’s Chicken and Java City.  If you are worried about what your students are eating, Thompson Cafeteria offers nutritional meals.  There is a variety of meal plan choices plus Cafe Cash.  An unlimited-meal plan equates to $2.85 per meal, quite a bargain for variety, quality and convenience!

SAFETY & SECURITY - All residence halls have offices, which are open 24 hours a day.  Security Assistants monitor entrances/exits with the help of cameras and door alarm systems.  All rooms are equipped with smoke detectors and fire extinguishers are located throughout the halls and in all kitchens.

FRIENDSHIPS - On-campus living provides a greater opportunity to meet other students and develop lifelong friendships.  Off-campus students frequently complain of loneliness and feeling left out of the fun of campus life.

ROOM CHANGE POLICY - The Department of Residence Life has a liberal room change policy.  There is the opportunity to make room changes after classes begin and throughout the year.

RESIDENCE LIFE STAFF - All residence halls have Resident Assistants living on every floor.  They are available to help with problems and coordinate educational and social programming.

LIFESTYLE OPTIONS - Special residence hall floors have been designated as Academic Success Communities featuring Learning for Life, Environmental Issues, Healthy “U” and Honors Housing.  Tobacco free floors and a variety of visitation plans are also offered.

FREE LAUNDRY – Don’t worry about your students bringing home piles of dirty laundry because they can do all the free laundry that they want in the residence halls.

ROOM MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS – Your student doesn’t have to worry about paying for repairs or finding someone to fix a broken pipe or an electrical socket in their room.  They simply report the problem to the residence hall office.  So, when you come to visit, your limited time won’t include handyman work.

MICROFRIDGE® - There is a MicroFridge® (microwave/freezer/refrigerator unit) provided at no extra charge in every resident’s room as part of the basic room furnishings.  That means there is no need to be concerned about moving refrigerators and microwaves during checkins and checkouts.

EAGLEVISIONWinthrops own Cable TV system allows resident students to receive stations that are not available to the Rock Hill community, including Eagle Cinema, Residence Life’s Free Movie Channel.  Sixty-one basic cable channels are included at no extra charge.

LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES - On-campus students have many opportunities for involvement.  Each building has a hall council and all residents are automatically members of the Resident Students' Association.
