Parents’ Note from the Dinkin's Student Union

Hi! I'm Boyd Jones and I work with the Dinkins Student Union Program Board, the student group responsible for a variety of entertainment brought to the Winthrop community. As parents of Winthrop students, you are now part of our community and I hope you will check out our website from time to time and see what we have coming Winthrop's way . The programs that we present are also open to spouses, parents, and children of Winthrop students. The mission of DSU states that we are providing a variety of programming to increase involvement, increase an appreciation of diversity, and expose the Winthrop community to new ideas and forms of entertainment.

This fall we have a wide variety of programming options: a "Stomp-like” percussion show;  poets;  Celtic bagpipe rock; hypnotists; Latin musicians;  Hip-Hop; Christian a cappella;  comedians;  world beat bands;  Jazz Saxophonists;  folk singers;  presentations about Africa; ska;  rock 'n roll;  rap artists; a professional traveling puppet theatre; Halloween drive-in movie; Polynesian dancers; musicians & percussionists;  a presentation on 80's music; a New Orleans zydeco band; karaoke; a storyteller discussing violence against women; a guitar duo; and an improv trio.

We hope that you will encourage your student to take advantage of the wonderful options that will be available to them at Winthrop. The students on DSU really strive to develop a schedule that consists of a wide variety of performers and offer semester passes to make the events very affordable to all. Please check out our upcoming calendars anytime on our website (www.winthrop.edu/studentaffairs/dsu) and click on the various links to find out additional information about any specific act you choose.

If your schedule permits, I hope you will come and enjoy one of our "up-and-coming" performers. I think the more you visit, the more you will realize what a great decision your child made when selecting Winthrop for their collegiate years.

Come see us when you can and encourage your student to do the
same!
