Winthrop Athletics Soaring to New Heights Over the past three years, the Winthrop Athletic Department has taken some major strides to join the ranks as one of the best schools in the country for its size. The biggest improvements that have been made are the new facilities for baseball, softball, soccer, tennis, and track, as well as renovations to the coliseum. These upgrades have attracted some of the nation’s best student athletes to Winthrop University. This has led to success on and off the playing surface. The fact that your child chose to attend Winthrop University during this time only makes their experience a better one. Everyone loves to cheer for a winner and that is what we are here at Winthrop University. Last year we won a record 6 Big South Championships in men’s basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, men’s tennis and women’s tennis. It was the most championships won in school history and one of the largest totals in the country for a Division I institution. The expectations for this year are enormous as we look to break last year’s record of six championships. All of this success has brought excitement to the Rock Hill community and the students on campus. We have teams to cheer for that can compete against the best in the nation. With your student now attending Winthrop University we want you to adopt the Eagles as your team. When you come to visit your child, check to see if there is a sporting event going on that day, so that you can spend some quality time together cheering for the Eagles. For updates about Winthrop Eagles Athletics you can check out our website at www.winthropeagles.com. There you can purchase tickets before you come into town so that you do not have to wait in line. Remember that your student gets in free. It is the best deal in town! I encourage you to give us a chance to win you over the next time you are in town. I think that you will be shocked at the level of competition that we offer here at Winthrop University. When you plan a trip to an event, we want you to fit in by wearing official Winthrop merchandise. We have expanded our line of clothes and you can now purchase them at the following locations: Wal-Mart, Steve & Barry’s, The Bookworm, The College Shoppe, and Logo Works. Each one of them offer great Winthrop merchandise at good prices and the opportunity to show your Eagle Pride. I hope that during the time that your student is attending Winthrop University you attend an event or “sport” the Eagles Merchandise, displaying pride and supporting Winthrop.
