Dining Services Delivers Quality and Excellence

Diversity is one of the greatest things about the college experience.  It’s also one of the things that your student will have with their dining membership.  We have provided a few answers to some very popular questions that we often receive.

What can I do if my student’s Café Cash runs low?

Add more!  Each time your student purchases a snack or a full meal, they may ask the cashier to tell them how many meals and/or Café Cash that they have remaining.  If their balance is low, money can be added using cash, check, money order or credit card.  Simply go the Dining Services Office located at 112 Thomson Hall or call us at 803-323-2119.  You may also visit our web site http://www.winthrop.edu/dining/cafecash.htm.

What are the advantages of Café Cash?

* Café Cash eliminates the need to carry cash around campus.  As long as your student has their I.D., they can make purchases at any campus dining location.

* No taxes are charged on purchases made with Café Cash.  That has a savings of 6%-8% with every Café Cash purchase at any dining location.

* Café Cash can be added to your student’s account at any time.

What happens to any unused Café Cash at the end of the semester?

Any unused Café Cash will transfer from the fall to the spring semester.  No Café Cash that is purchased as part of a meal plan (including the Courtyard Plan) will carry over to the next school year.  It will need to be used by June 30th.

What happens if my student needs to speak with a manager?

We have managers and supervisors scheduled for each dining location.  The Winthrop Dining Services management team can also be contacted through our website.

Where can my student use their dining membership?

Thomson Café offers an all-you-care-to-eat meal in a restaurant style café.  Your student will find an abundant variety of fresh foods, prepared their way each day.  They will also be able to enjoy our new soft seating social area and wireless internet access which offers a place for your student to take a break with friends, play a few video games on our large screen television, or have a bite to eat.

We have customized our dining venues to fit student lifestyles by expanding our service hours and enhancing the atmosphere with attractive social areas and wireless internet access in all our dining locations.  Throughout the campus, student will find other dining locations that accept Café Cash as well as cash and credit cards.  Eagle Express is our convenience store located in Thomson Cafe.  Your student will be able to get everything they need without leaving campus.  It offers snacks, groceries, personal care items, school supplies, and beverages.

Our “Hot Zone” convenience store wall located in the Dinkins Student Center is the hot spot on campus which offers fresh Java City coffee and the convenience of grabbing a fresh meal from our C3 Express Wall.  Also located on the lower level is Dinkins Food Court.  Our a la carte menu offers items from a variety of dining concepts.  Choose from Subway, Bene Pizzeria, Orville & Wilbur’s chicken, Grille Works, Freshens Yogurt, Java City coffee, fresh fruit and salad bar.

Located in the center of campus in Margaret Nance Hall is our cozy coffee shop, Java City.  It is a great place for your student to hangout and to enjoy their favorite coffee beverage.  Fresh baked pastries, smoothies, soups, grab & go sandwiches, hot Panini sandwiches and salads are fresh and always available.

Your student can find homestyle favorites with a twist at our Home Zone station in the Courtyard Food Court located in the Courtyard Residence Hall.  We also offer Grille Works which features sirloin burgers and other grilled sandwiches made to order.  Fresh bakery items, freshly brewed Java City coffee, grab & go sandwiches, salads, and snack items are options for your student to enjoy.
