Curriculum
Leadership Winthrop began in 1994 and is designed to introduce student to
leadership topics and to promote their own self-awareness. The program also
provides students an opportunity to actively participate in campus life and
develop friendships with other emerging leaders on campus. The goal of
Leadership Winthrop is to teach skills that will help students become better
leaders and members of the organizations in which they choose to participate.
Professionals and current student
leaders teach the program's classes which have included leadership styles,
values, stress management, social justice, group dynamics, diversity, conflict
resolution, career development and ethics. Since service is an integral part of leadership,
each Leadership Winthrop participant is also involved in a service project. The
Leadership Winthrop class meets once a week for nine weeks and end with a
closing ceremony and reception. Leadership Winthrop 2009 will meet Tuesdays from
3:30 to 4:45 beginning February 3rd and ending April 7th.
Students can become involved in
Leadership Winthrop by being nominated by a faculty or staff member or by
completing an application. Applications are due February 2nd, 2009.
