Winthrop University has subscribed to the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) maintained at the University of Miami for provision of required training in the areas of Human Subject Research, The Care and Use of Animals in Research, Biosafety and Responsible Conduct of Research.
Instructions to complete CITI Compliance Training
A. Log on to the CITI website: http://www.citiprogram.org
B. Click on: New User – Register Here”
Step 1: Select your iunstitution or organization; Using the drop down box entitled “Participating Institutions”; click on the arrow and select Winthrop University
Step 2: Select your user name and password; Enter a username and password of your choice.
Step 3: Security question and answer; complete information as requested
Step 4. Enter your name: Enter your first and last name as you will show on protocols submitted to the SPAR Office. Do not use nicknames.
Step 5. Enter your email address: Enter your Winthrop email address if you have one. You may enter an alternate email address on the Secondary Email Address block if you choose to do so.
Step 6. Gender, Ethnicity and Race - Check boxes as appropriate
Step 7. CME/CEU Credits (required): Check yes or no, and if yes you will need to enter your professional affiliation.
Step 8. Course Survey (required): Check yes or no
Click on Submit

Check the box beside the curriculum that you are wanting to take. You may choose more than one.

No - if you have never taken the human subject training before; If you check no, you will be given the option of 5 different modules, check only one.
Yes - if you have taken the training before and now just need refresher training

Lab Animal Research - Choose between:
Working with the IACUC Course: For researchers using animals in their research
Essentials for IACUC Members: For members of the University IACUC Committee

CITI will have entered Winthrop University based upon information you entered when you created your login. If you are working with another institution and want to include their training requirements as well as Winthrop's; select YES, otherwise, select NO
F. Main Menu - You are now at the main training menu and may begin your course. Simple click on "Enter" under Status
Each training Module has reading material followed by a short quiz. A successful score is 80% correct answers for the training as a whole. You may retake the quiz until you have achieved 80% or better. You do not have to complete the entire course at one time. When you come back to the training site, you will be asked for your user name and password, and can pick the course back up where you left off.
It is not necessary for you to submit documentation that you have completed the course. Notification of training completion is sent to the University Administrator (Teresa Justice) within 24 hours of your completing the course.
