Sponsored Programs and Research
(SPAR)
Mission Statement:
The Office of Sponsored Programs and Research serves the faculty,
students and staff in seeking and administering external funding for
research, instruction and outreach programs, and assists the
University Research Council in the administration of internal
research funding. Pre-award responsibilities include
identifying potential program sponsors, obtaining and interpreting
current program guidelines, reviewing proposal submissions and
tracking the status of submitted projects. The director serves
in an ex-officio capacity on the Research Council, Institutional
Review Board, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and the
BioSafety Committee. In addition, as a post-award office,
responsibilities include assisting faculty in the administration of
awarded programs, preparing and/or reviewing financial reports for
submission to the sponsor agency, assisting in external and internal
audits of programs and processing the draw down of funds from
sponsors. This office serves as the repository for grant files and
protocols acted upon by the IRB, IACUC or BioSafety Committees.
Office personnel prepare the Statement of Federal Domestic
Assistance and the Facilities and Administrative Cost Rate, and
serve as the reporting agent to the Office of Grants Services,
SC Budget and Control Board.
