Gerontology Certificate Program
The
certificate in gerontology is designed for: 1) current students
with a major that does not require a minor but whose career
interest is in working with older adults (e.g., Social Work
majors), 2) individuals with undergraduate or professional
degrees seeking a credential in gerontology, 3) adults with a
high school diploma who are preparing for job entry into the
aging network or who are just interested in the field of aging,
and 4) professionals working in the aging network who want to
update their knowledge in gerontology.
The Curriculum
Winthrop's gerontology
curriculum is based on standards and guidelines for programs
created by the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE)
and consists of 18 hours of courses. Students who are
enrolled in the gerontology certificate program must maintain a
minimum grade point ratio of 2.0 to receive a certificate.

How to Enroll
Current students enrolling in
the certificate program must complete the application form for the
certificate program at the Student Services Office in their major.
Non-students enrolling in the certificate program in gerontology
must meet standard admission requirements of the university
including a completed application and evidence of a high school
diploma or GED. To obtain an application, contact Winthrop’s Office
