The Search for the Next SCCC Executive Director Has Begun
"I consider Campus Compact to be one of the most enlightened and farsighted ventures that American colleges and universities have undertaken in recent years. It provides evidence that there are, in the world of higher education, people more than willing to pitch in, people of vision and commitment.".
JOHN GARDNER,
FORMER U.S. SECRETARY OF HEALTH, EDUCATION AND WELFARE AND FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE CARNEGIE CORPORATION

SCCC AMERICORPS*VISTA PROJECT
AmeriCorps*VISTA is a federal service program designed specifically to fight poverty. Founded as Volunteers in Service to America in 1965, VISTA has been on the front lines in the fight against poverty in America for more than 40 years.
Since 1997, Campus Compact VISTA programs have grown to more than 400 VISTA members working on campuses and in communities across 26 state Campus Compact programs.
Campus Compact VISTA programs join the mission of Campus Compact
and AmeriCorps*VISTA through projects that build
campus-community partnerships to fight poverty. Through the
Campus Compact VISTA program, we alleviate poverty by
strengthening communities and developing leaders.
South Carolina Campus Compact sponsors AmeriCorps*VISTAs on member campuses throughout the Palmetto
state. SCCC VISTAs respond to the needs in the community surrounding
the college or university they serve and mobilize student
volunteers to make an impact both on campus and in the
community.
Responsibilities for SCCC VISTAs vary among
institutions, but all SCCC VISTAs work with their campus to:
- Build campus-community partnerships;
- Identify local poverty-related community needs;
- Facilitate programs that impact low-income populations;
- Mobilize student volunteers;
- Educate faculty, staff, students, and the community at large about service learning .
