South Carolina Campus Compact | Executive Director's Welcome

Welcome to South Carolina Campus Compact!

SCCC is a coalition of 17 South Carolina colleges and universities working together to promote and develop the civic purposes of higher education. SCCC improves the ability of higher education institutions to partner with their communities to collectively impact community needs and provide real world learning for college students. Members of SCCC collaborate to share and seek resources and best practices, mobilizing students, faculty, and staff toward this end.

SCCC member campuses represent the full spectrum of higher education institutions, public and private, two-year, four-year, and research universities, and partner with both urban and rural communities across the state to impact community needs. Visit the websites of our member institutions to see the many ways they are developing informed and actively engaged students.

Our mission, to provide, promote, evaluate, and sustain civic-engagement, service-learning, and community-service initiatives that provide South Carolina college students with the skills needed to be active, engaged citizens in their local communities, the state, the nation, and the world, guides the benefits that we offer our members. SCCC supports the various civic engagement programs and initiatives of our member institutions by providing statewide professional development events and discounts at national events through the national Campus Compact, by providing information on current trends and funding opportunities to further grow and sustain impactful programming, by assisting with the marketing of campus events, partnerships and successes through monthly and quarterly publications, by serving as a conduit in the development of mutually beneficial partnerships on a state and national level, and by recognizing those who are making exceptional impact in the area of service through our statewide award program.

For more information on the benefits of membership, please visit our “become a member” page or contact the SCCC office directly ( SCCC hopes to continue to build our network of colleges and universities across the state so that as a united front, we can make positive and sustainable impact throughout South Carolina. Meet our Executive Director

Jessica Lynn joined the South Carolina Campus Compact team in August of 2012. She resides in York, South Carolina, where she has lived for most of her life. Jessica earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Furman University in Greenville, SC and a Master of Social Work from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC, and has brought extensive experience to SCCC through her experience in a variety of arenas, including education, marketing, graphic design, social services, and counseling.

For three years, prior to coming to SCCC, she was the Executive Director of The Haven Men’s Shelter, a non-profit organization in Rock Hill, SC serving men living in situations of homelessness by meeting basic needs and connecting them with the resources needed to overcome the challenges laying before them. In this role she gained knowledge of community needs and the local, state and national resources and initiatives available or lacking to meet those needs. Previously, she worked with A Place for Hope in Rock Hill as a Community Support Coordinator and Catawba Care, where she worked to evaluate the needs of those living with AIDS/HIV and to create awareness through the development of innovative marketing materials. She has additional experience with the Center for Social Welfare Research and Assessment at Winthrop University in completing participatory action research to develop leadership and community engagement with young people in York County and presented the process and findings at the 2009 National Association of Social Workers Conference. Jessica has also worked as a marketing manager and graphic designer at Motivations, Inc. a continuing education company serving rehabilitation specialists and overseas in Shanghai, China as an English teacher, where she also completed extended studies at East China Normal University.

Jessica is very active in her community, volunteering as a Guardian ad Litem advocating for abused and neglected children in the court system for many years, as well as donating her graphic design skills and musical talents to benefit local non-profit organizations. The skills she has developed in her various employment and volunteer roles will serve to further strengthen the focus and impact of SCCC and the benefits to its member institutions.

“We are pleased that Ms. Lynn’s professional experience and career goals align with the mission of South Carolina Campus Compact to be the leader in service-learning training and resource development in our state so that higher education institutions can graduate fully engaged citizens,” stated Dr. DiGiorgio, Winthrop University. “Ms. Lynn’s commitment to service will ensure our continued forward momentum as we build the infrastructure for civic engagement and leadership in our state.”
