South Carolina Campus Compact
Thank you for your interest in the South Carolina Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA project!
VISTAs serve as a liaison between one of our 17 member campuses and its community. South Carolina Campus Compact is looking for qualified individuals to help fight poverty and build campus-community partnerships in order to impact low-income populations. SCCC VISTAs will help to mobilize students and educate students, staff, faculty, and the community at large about service learning, civic engagement, and community impact.
SCCC VISTAs come from a variety of backgrounds with different professional goals, but all are prepared to take leadership roles in planning and managing projects and inspiring students, faculty, staff and community members to take action together. SCCC VISTAs act as change agents on their prescribed campus and in the surrounding community and have a demonstrated commitment to community service, service-learning, or social justice. We look for candidates with strong written and verbal communication skills who will empower communities, leverage institutional resources, and build capacity for sustainable social change.
VISTAs’ assignments may focus on community and economic development, community outreach, children/youth, education, environment, health, hunger, homelessness, housing, neighborhood revitalization, and/or technology. Candidates should have skills in all or several of the following: counseling, communications, community organization, computer/technology, conflict resolution, education, event planning, fund raising/grant writing, leadership, public health, public speaking, recruitment, teaching/tutoring, writing editing, and/or youth development. We encourage you to roam our website and read our quarterly magazine, Better Together, to discover some of the current SCCC VISTAs’ projects and to read about the above skills in action!
The VISTA position is a one year commitment (July 2013-July 2014). VISTAs are eligible for childcare assistance and have the choice of an Education Award or End of Service Stipend upon completion of service. A living allowance, relocation allowance, health care, and trainings are provided. We do require that VISTAs have a Bachelor or Associate degree and transportation may be needed dependent on the site placement.
