Amanda "Mandy" Kinzey, South Carolina Campus Compact VISTA Leader
Mandy Kinzey is the 2012-2013 AmeriCorps VISTA leader for the South Carolina Campus Compact, located at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Mandy graduated from the University of North Florida in 2008, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Public Relations. Mandy has previously served in AmeriCorps with Orlando Neighborhood Improvement Corporation in Orlando, FL as their program coordinator for resident services during August 2011-2012. She hopes to continue her career working in the non-profit field assisting children and families in need.
Elizabeth Crumley, South Carolina Campus Compact VISTA
Elizabeth is a first year VISTA serving in the South Carolina Campus Compact office, located at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina. A Winthrop alum, Elizabeth graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Psychology. Elizabeth previously served wtih AmeriCorps National in Washington, DC as a Special Event Coordinator with Operation Homefront, a non-profit organization that provides emergency financial to service members, military families and wounded warriors. She hopes to return to graduate school for her Masters in Higher Education Administration, and then continue working with first generation college students and student veterans.
Kate Cummings, Clemson University VISTA
Kate is a first year VISTA serving at Clemson University, located in Clemson, SC. Kate graduated from Clemson in 2012, where she received her Master’s in Forestry. Kate has previously volunteered with the SC Botanical Gardens and Clemson Community Care. She hopes to return to school for another Masters in Horticulture or Plant Sciences, and then continue to work with community gardens, small farms, agriculture extension, and local food systems.
Emily Nuss, Clemson University VISTA
Emily is a first year VISTA serving at Clemson University, located in Clemson, SC. Emily graduated from Central Michigan University in May 2012, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management with minors in Event Management and Spanish. Emily has previously volunteered with the Michigan Service Scholarship Program, the Alternative Breaks program and Invisible Children INC. Down the road, Emily hopes to attend graduate school to obtain a Masters in Social Work. In her free time, Emily enjoys reading, listening to music, traveling and crafting.
Martha Scott Johnson, Converse College VISTA
Martha Scott Johnson is a first year VISTA serving at Converse College, located in Spartanburg, SC. A North Carolina native, she graduated from Appalachian State University in 2011, where received her Bachelor of Science in International Business and Bachelor of Arts in Business Management. She spent the past year working in retail management. Martha Scott has previously volunteered at events for the Girl Scouts of Watauga County, Watauga County Youth Network and Prevent Child Abuse America. She hopes to get her Masters in Higher Education Administration with the goal of working in career counseling.
Michelle Biron, Greenville Technical College VISTA
Michelle is a first year VISTA serving with South Carolina Campus Compact at Greenville Technical College. Michelle is from a small town in Connecticut and a recent graduate of The University of Connecticut, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She has volunteered with various nonprofit environmental and education related organizations. She hopes to make enough of an impact on students and the organizations while serving so that the program continues to grow at the college.
Daphnie Glenn, The University of South Carolina-- Upstate VISTA
Daphnie is a first year VISTA serving at The University of South Carolina Upstate, located in Spartanburg, SC. Daphnie graduated from The University of South Carolina Upstate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a bi-discipline in Non-Profit Administration and Communications. She has previously volunteered with the Boys and Girls Club of the Upstate, where her passion is working with students of all ages. She hopes to successfully complete her service with the AmeriCorps and increase her knowledge of students and the community by returning to school to receive a Master’s Degree in Counselor Education with an emphasis in Student Affairs.
John "JP" Peters, The University of South Carolina-- Upstate VISTA
JP Peters is a first year VISTA serving at University of South Carolina Upstate, located in Spartanburg, SC. JP Peters graduated from Georgia Southwestern State University in 2010, where he received his B.S. Ed. in Exercise Science and Wellness and is working on his Masters of Education in Counselor Education (Student Affairs) at Clemson University. JP Peters has previously volunteered with Boys and Girls Club of America, Relay for Life, Habitat for Humanity, Fuller Center, and the United Way. He hopes to become a professional in the field of Student Affairs and learn how to better serve and assist in the growth of college students.
Justine Knudson, Winthrop University VISTA
Justine is a first year VISTA serving at Winthrop University, located in Rock Hill, SC. Justine graduated from Boise State University in 2012, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in English with a Linguistics emphasis. Justine has previously volunteered with Ronald McDonald House, community gardens, and the local refugee community. After her year of service she would like to spend a year teaching English abroad before enrolling in a graduate program for Linguistics.
Jillian Wahlbrink, Winthrop University VISTA
Jill is a first year VISTA serving at Winthrop University, located in Rock Hill, SC. Jill graduated from Villanova University in 2012, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in Finance and a minor in Marketing. Jill has volunteered in an elementary school working with at risk youth and is passionate about education reform. She has also previously volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, the Blind Sports Organization, and New Hope for Cambodian Children, an orphanage for Cambodian children affected by HIV/AIDS. She hopes to someday work in higher education or for a non-profit organization.
Sarah Hager, Wofford College VISTA
Sarah Hager is a returning VISTA, serving a second year at Wofford College, located in Spartanburg, SC. Sarah graduated from Wofford College in 2011, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Intercultural Studies and Philosophy with a concentration in African and African-American Studies. She hopes to pursue a Master’s in Public Policy upon the completion of this VISTA term
