Major, Minor, Track: Definitions/ Undergraduate Degrees
Policy Description
The following definitions apply only to undergraduate degree programs:
Major: A major is a minimum of 30 semester hours of a group of courses whose selection is based on standards of practice and applicability to the field of study. Course requirements for a major vary depending on the program of study/degree and are determined by Winthrop University faculty.
Minor: A minor is a minimum of 15 hours of course work and a maximum of 24 hours of courses whose selection is based on standards of practice and applicability to the field of study. A minor does not have the breadth of a major. Course requirements are determined by the Winthrop University faculty.
Concentration: A concentration is a coordinated group of courses representing a sub-specialization or an emphasis within a major.
Tracks: A track is a sub-division of a concentration
