Robert Foster Cherry Award for Great Teaching Description:
With a deep appreciation for the impact of
significant teachers in his life, Robert Foster Cherry, a Baylor University
alumnus, made an exceptional estate bequest to establish the Cherry Award
program to recognize excellent teachers and bring them in contact with Baylor
students. The award recipient will receive a prize of $200,000 and will teach in
residence at Baylor University during the fall or spring semester;
travel expenses and a furnished apartment will be provided. To further Baylor
University’s commitment to great teaching, the winner’s home department will
receive $25,000. In addition, each of the three finalists chosen in the spring
of 2007 will receive $15,000 and will present a series of lectures at Baylor in
the fall, as well as a Cherry Award Lecture on his/her home campus. The
home department of the finalists will receive $10,000 to foster faculty
development.
Fulbright Programs for U.S. Scholars
Description:
One of the
most widely recognized academic honors, the Fulbright awards provide support for
graduate students and young professionals to study abroad. Awards include full
grants for an academic year of study or research, travel grants and teaching
assistantships in English. The
Fulbright Program: (1) Is sponsored by the U.S. Department of
State.; (2) Is the largest U.S. international exchange program offering
opportunities for students, scholars, and professionals to undertake
international graduate study, advanced research, university teaching, and
teaching in elementary and secondary schools worldwide; (3) Was established in
1946 by the U.S. Congress to "enable the government of the United States to
increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the
people of other countries."
Phi Kappa Phi Scholar & Artist Awards
Description: The Phi Kappa Phi Scholar
Award and Phi Kappa Phi Artist Award honor those individuals who demonstrate the
ideals of the Society through their activities, achievements, and scholarship.
Awardees receive $5,000 honoraria, a one year active membership, a recognition
certificate, and the opportunity to present their work at the Society's
triennial convention. Each award is given once per triennium. First presented in
1974, the Scholar Award recognizes excellence in teaching, research, and public
service. In 1983, the Artist Award was established to recognize the achievements
of those who, in addition to their outstanding scholarship, have displayed
talents in the broad realm of the arts—creative, graphic, performing, visual,

Smithsonian Institution Fellowships, Grants, and Internships
Description:
Smithsonian Institution offers a wide range of
support for research and study at a variety of levels in fields actively pursued
by its museums, research institutes, and research offices, including Latino and
Native American Community Fellowships. Fellowship opportunities include:
Senior and Postdoctoral - $35,000 per year; Earth and
Planetary Sciences Senior and Postdoctoral - $40,000 per year
