OFFICE of NATIONALLY COMPETITIVE AWARDS

Under the leadership of President Anthony DiGiorgio, Winthrop University's University College has spearheaded the creation of an Office of Nationally Competitive Awards (ONCA) so that we at Winthrop University can be more intentional about identifying the best and brightest of our student body to apply for nationally and internationally competitive awards, scholarships, fellowships, and unique opportunities both at home and abroad.

National awards help students enrich their lives and achieve their dreams. Moreover, the nationally competitive award process itself is extremely rewarding, challenging students to reflect upon who they are and who they want to be. This process requires students to identify their goals, establish their priorities, share their dreams, and articulate their plans on how to get there.

ONCA is here for that purpose.

Being competitive for a national award requires success both inside and outside the classroom. Most national awards require some combination of each of the following: academic achievement, undergraduate research, community service, and evidence of leadership. Consequently, students must visit ONCA early in their Winthrop experience. ONCA will identify student strengths, augment student weaknesses, and help students become more intentional about their plans for the Winthrop experience, graduate school, and beyond.

There are over sixty awards, scholarships, and fellowships on the ONCA Web site for undergraduates and graduate students in all disciplinary fields. Please take the time to visit this office and explore our Web site!

The right nationally competitive award is out there for YOU!
