Faculty and Staff
Faculty
members of the department of Human Nutrition at Winthrop
are
devoted to teaching. Eighty percent of the full-time teaching
faculty hold terminal degrees, indicating a high level of knowledge
of their specialty areas. They are also involved in research and
public service.
One member was awarded the 1997 S.C. Governor’s Award for Science.
Another member was president of the Charlotte Chapter of the
Sigma Xi Scientific Honor Society. The dietitians voted Outstanding
Dietitian in South Carolina in 1997 and 1999 are both Winthrop
faculty members. Faculty members have published in referenced
journals as The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, The
British Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, the Journal of
Nutrition Education, the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, and Topics in
Clinical Nutrition. Small class sizes provide ample
opportunities for interaction between faculty and students ensuring
that students make the contacts needed for advanced study and
employment.
