Katherine Kinsey holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Music Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The majority of her teaching career has been in the public school system in Charlotte, N. C. where she was a choral music educator for fifteen years. Dr. Kinsey's teaching responsibilities at Winthrop include instruction in secondary choral music education classes and supervising interns who wish to become choral directors in middle or high school. In addition, she conducts the Winthrop Chamber Singers which is a small ensemble that concentrates on the musical performance of "a cappella" motets and chamber works from all periods of musical history.
She resides in Charlotte, N. C. where she is the music director of Amity Presbyterian Church. Her professional affiliations include the American Choral Directors Association, the Music Educators National Conference, the Choristers Guild, the American Guild of Organists, the English Guild of Handbell Ringers, and the Organization of American Kodaly Educators. She has adjudicated various choral competitions in both North and South Carolina and enjoys doing motivational workshops with choral teachers and young people interested in choral technique.
