Winthrop Jazz Voices is a small a cappella group of 12 singers performing traditional and contemporary jazz under the direction of
James Kevin
Gray.
The group has a distinguished history, having appeared with nationally-known entertainment icons Doc Severinsen, Bob Hope, the Four Freshmen and the California vocal jazz ensemble Beachfront Property. The Jazz Voices have also appeared a conventions of the South Carolina Music Educators Association and the American Choral Directors Association as well as the Chicago national convention of the Music Educators National Conference. The group has the distinction of being the only known collegiate a cappella vocal jazz ensemble in the Carolinas.

Songs in the groups vocal jazz show are drawn from a wide range of sources: Latin jazz, Dixieland, ragtime, Bach, Broadway, Hollywood, African-American Spiritual, and original jazz-rock. Composers range from Duke Ellington to Paul McCartney. Arrangers include vocal jazz pioneer Phil Mattson, the Manhattan Transfer, the Kings Singers, the Real Group -- Sweden's hot new vocal jazz ensemble -- and Jazz Voices founding director Robert Edgerton.
Jazz Voices is one of
