Collegium Musicum
Dr. Ian Pearson, Director

Collegium Musicum, directed by Dr. Ian Pearson , is an instrumental chamber ensemble that provides music majors (audition required) with an opportunity to learn about "early music" practices through the performance of "early music" literature on period instruments, such as the recorder, krummhorn, shawm, and harpsichord. Music of the Italian Renaissance (1500s) is emphasized, though performances may include music of similar "early music" traditions. Members of the Collegium Musicum participate regularly in the instrumental ensemble that performs at Winthrop University's Madrigal Dinner each December, sponsored by the music fraternity, sorority, and the Department of Music.
