The Modern Languages Learning Center, also known as the
"Language Lab," is located in 307 Kinard and is available to
Modern Languages students and instructors for teaching,
learning, and practicing foreign languages. Consisting of a
classroom and a conference room, the Language Lab gives
students and instructors access to state-of-the-art
multimedia equipment, computers, and software in a
language-focused environment.
After an extensive planning period and with numerous
contributions, the Language Learning Center officially
opened on June 17, 2002 with a ceremony honoring the South
Carolina Cable Television Foundation for its contributions.
With these contributions, the old language lab was upgraded
to accommodate for the rapid changes in technology and
education.

|
Affected by this upgrade were rooms 307 and 311 in
Kinard Hall, which now house modern language classes
taught in the most innovative ways recommended by
educators. As part of the renovations and upgrades
to the site, old speech booths were replaced with
networked computers linked to a control room staffed
by lab assistants and a teacher station in each
room. Lab assistants and instructors can now show
their screens to individuals or groups of students
using the existing local area network, listen to
students speaking, and assist groups in the language
learning process. |
