The Political and Security Committee is an integral part of the WMUN.  It is fast-paced and always involved in fascinating debate.  The issues focus on political implications of the member nations and how their security or that of their allies may or may not be threatened.

FROM: Peru                                                                                                                                               SUBJECT: Hugo Chavez

1 Deeply disturbed with the undemocratic way Hugo Chavez is beginning to run Venezuela;
2
3 Alarmed that he is giving himself more power, resembling more of a dictator than a president;
4
5 Convinced that the people under his rule are oppressed and unhappy with their leader;
6
7 Noting with deep concern that Venezuela is an oil rich country but most of its people live 10 in extreme poverty,
8
9 Recalling that a coup was staged against Chavez in 2002, which shows the people’s dislike for the man;
10
11 Affirming that all nations must stop Chavez from changing his country status as a democracy to a dictatorship for the welfare of
12 Venezuela and the welfare of its people.

Calls For:

1. The immediate removal of Hugo Chavez from power by the member states,

2. Chavez to be put in exile away from Venezuela so that he may not return to power,

3. A United Nations approved government to control the country until elections can be held,

4. The United Nations to oversee elections in Venezuela that will put a pro-democratic person in office.
