The Minor in Gerontology 

The Gerontology minor is designed for students who are currently pursuing a degree in a major that requires a minor.  Students selecting gerontology as a minor should complete the appropriate form in the Student Services Office for their major.  The minor consists of 18 semester hours.

Required Courses (15 hours total):

  • GRNT 300 Introduction to Gerontology

  • SCIE/ GRNT 301 Biology of Aging

  • GRNT 440 Special Directed Field Study Practicum

Choose two of the following three:

  •  PSYC 206 Developmental Psychology

  •  SCWK/GRNT 305 Behavior in the Social Environment

  •  SOCL/ GRNT 504 Sociology of Aging

Elective Courses (3 hours):

SOCL 304 / GRNT 304 Death and Grief as Social Processes
SOCL 339 Sociology of Health and Illness
SCWK 521 Older Adults: Policies and Services
SCWK 531 Older Adults: Practice and Trends
NUTR 221 Human Nutrition
HLTH 500 Contemporary Health Problems
PSYC  510 Behavior Analysis and Behavior Change
HCMT 200 Introduction to Health Care Management
