Welcome to the main website for the Geography (Minor) at Winthrop University.
Geography is both an "art" and a "science" as it combines the best of both disciplines into a integrated, synergistic environment whereby various issues and topics are examined from a geographic perspective.
Geography is defined as "the science of place." It is the study of the surface of the earth, the location and distribution of its physical and cultural features, the areal patterns or places that they form, and the interrelation of these features as they affect humans.
The geography minor @ Winthrop University is
focused on providing students with a solid foundation in Human Geography and its sub-disciplines. As a result, the program offers a variety of courses in regional geography, economic geography, geographic information systems and environmental sustainability. In addition, GEOG350 courses or Selected Topics in Geography are offered to address contemporary issues or to provide students with additional course
offerings that are not traditionally taught.
Students interested in pursuing a geography minor, independent studies in a geography related topic, or wishing to attend an
honors course (or have a course considered for honors) are encouraged to contact
Mr. Bryan McFadden
to discuss the options
available.
