The Student Alumni Council hosted the annual Ghost Tours on Oct. 27 from 8:30-11:30 p.m. The event raised $700, which was donated to the Winthrop Fund to support academic scholarships, the Alumni Association and faculty awards. Council members thanked the P.A.S.T. Researchers, a group of local ghost hunters that recently investigated Tillman Hall for signs of paranormal activity, for sharing their research and contributing to the success of the event.
The online presence for the Winthrop Alumni Association has undergone an extreme makeover. The Winthrop Alumni Association, along with the Division of University Development and Alumni Relations, recently launched a new online community for alumni and friends, www.winthropalumni.com.
While the new site has a seamless look and feel with the Winthrop Web site, it allows for further engagement with alumni and friends in new and robust ways.
Based on feedback from the Alumni Attitude Survey, the alumni association searched for an online solution that would provide alumni with the functionality they wanted. This new online community, created by iModules, allows alumni to search for other alumni, create an online profile, update personal information, register for e-mail for life, chat online and add and search class notes, in addition to several other features.
Alumni also may register for events, make online gifts, create and join peer groups and learn about engaging with the alumni association with just a few clicks of the mouse. The community includes added functionality with Facebook Connect, a utility that links an alum’s community account with his or her Facebook profile.
To join the online community, alumni need their seven-digit I.D. number found on most alumni mailings. To receive your alumni I.D., contact the Office of Alumni Relations at 800/578-6545 or e-mail wualumni@winthrop.edu.
