Orientation

Orientation students gather by the Leitner Wall for a group activity.

• Get ready to enroll at Winthrop. All freshmen entering in the fall are required to attend one of four two-day Orientation sessions offered in June. Register for Orientation.

Orientation is a program designed to assist new students and their families in adjusting to life as a student at Winthrop. During Orientation, new students meet current student leaders, receive information on the academic and social aspects of college life, meet with an academic adviser and register for classes.

Students who plan to major in selected degree programs should take the online mathematics placement test before attending Orientation. Click here for more information.

• Curious about Winthrop? Your personal admissions counselor can send you additional information on a specific program of study or area of interest. Complete the Tell Us More About You! form to customize your request.

• Summer visit information. Summer is the season when many students visit college campuses. At Winthrop, the weekday campus visit experience provides an opportunity to interact with students, faculty and staff. All weekday campus visits include a student-guided tour and an information session with an admissions counselor, but we also would be happy to schedule a classroom visit or meeting with a professor with advanced notice. The experience begins at 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. each weekday.

To schedule a visit, call 1-800-WINTHROP (946-8476) or use the online Campus Visit Request Form.

Top 10 reasons to schedule a campus visit to Winthrop University this summer:

  1. It is never too early to start planning for college.
  2. Many juniors and sophomores already have visited.
  3. Senior year is busy, and it can be hard to find time to visit colleges.
  4. Prospective students can obtain information on the application process by speaking with admissions counselors.
  5. Visitors can ask questions about college life at the WU.
  6. Families can learn about deadlines for scholarships and financial aid opportunities.
  7. High school students can learn about different majors by meeting professors.
  8. Thomson Café offers a wonderful variety of foods.
  9. Visitors can see up-to-date classrooms and recreational facilities.
  10. There are plenty of opportunities to hear about participation in clubs, service learning, study abroad and international or national student exchange.
