Eagles End Season
Among Top Teams in the Country

Senior Torrell Martin goes for a reverse layup in
the Eagles' 74-64 win over Notre Dame.In a spectacular season that included a
first-time NCAA tournament win, the Eagles compiled one of the best
records for a Winthrop men’s basketball team and plenty of successes for
the record books.
The Eagles, led by seniors Torrell Martin, Craig
Bradshaw and Phillip Williams, forged a 29-5 record on the way to
becoming one of only two teams in the nation undefeated in
conference play, and in the Eagles’ case, also at home. The list of
highlights, awards and special moments for this group was rather
extensive by season’s end.

About 100 former physical education majors returned
to Winthrop in March for a weekend reunion called "A
Farewell to Peabody - Peabody Moves West." The old
gym will be demolished this summer after completion
of the Lois Rhame West Health, Physical Education
and Wellness Center. The farewell was a time for
alumni to say goodbye to the building, revisit old
friends and tour the new center.
