Eagles Head to the NCAA Tournament...Again
The Winthrop Eagles capped an undefeated season in the Big South Conference by winning the tournament 84-81 over Virginia Military Institute and receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

The men’s basketball team will find out who and where they play in the first round of the NCAA tournament on March 11 during Selection Sunday.

Hall of Fame Honors Student-Athletes for Achievements
The former standout athletes who comprised the 2007 class for Winthrop’s Athletics Hall of Fame thanked the university for helping make them successful in their sports and in their lives.

Selected for the honor were retired professional golfer

Kathy Hite James `70; men's soccer player Carlos Gonzales `82; softball standout Christine Yon Korver `97; baseball star Jim Malseed `87, and men's basketball playmaker Tyson Waterman `00.

The Gift of Health: Joni Marr Donates Organ to Father
Winthrop wellness coach Joni Marr took extraordinary steps over the holidays to contribute to her father’s health.

She gave her father the most personalized Christmas gift she could – her left kidney.

With their March 3 win, the Eagles captured a third consecutive Big South Championship title, the seventh title in nine years.

 
Harnessing the Internet Is Aim of New Degree Program
What skills will future workers need for an ever-changing career environment?

Winthrop may have the answer with a new interdisciplinary major in information design to launch this fall.  It will train students in marketing, e-commerce, graphic design, communication and Web-based software development and data management.

Familiar Winthrop Face in Fossil Ads in North Carolina
Tony Moore `06 turned his public relations skills and his Winthrop contacts into a successful modeling stint for Fossil watches.

 

The former Big Stuff mascot heard last fall that Fossil was searching for a fresh face for a holiday promotion.

Connecting Winthrop's Past, Present and Future Through Alumni Reunions
Alumni Reunion Celebration, which will be held April 20-22, will reunite alumni for class reunions and showcase the Winthrop campus through walking or trolley tours.

The classes from 1932 through 1977, particularly those classes whose years end in a 2 or a 7, look forward to meeting this year.
