The 2006 freshman class moved onto
campus on Friday, Aug. 18. Student organizations were
again stationed around residence halls to help students move in. Upperclassmen moved
in the same weekend.
Winthrop continued its traditions of
Convocation, the Blue Line and the community picnic on
Monday, Aug. 21.
President DiGiorgio officially initiated the Class of 2010 into
community of learners. The freshmen received blue t-shirts and walked together from
Byrnes Auditorium to the front lawn for the picnic.
Hollie and Ty Bennett, both class of
'88, recently participated in the fourth annual Eagle Club Soccer Bash & Membership Recruitment
event with their family. This year's shrimp boil enabled club
members to meet the 2006 men's and women's soccer teams and
officially kick off the 2006 season.

This summer Winthrop's College of Visual
and Performing Arts hosted Kaleidoscope, a two-week arts program for high school students,
included courses in visual art, dance, creative writing, theatre
With veteran golf
coach Eddie Weldon having retired July 1 after 19 years, Winthrop hired
former golf standout Kevin Pendley, '98, as the new menís golf coach and
Jodi Wendt, who has served as the assistant golf coach for the past
two years, as head coach of the womenís team.
The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS)
selected Shaun Cassidy, associate professor of art and design, to
create sculptural reliefs to be part of the new light rail stations
in Charlotte. The 40-section metal leaf relief will represent
different native leaf species and city streets.
