Alumni Reunion Celebration
activities brought together hundreds of alumni who braved rainy
weather during the April 21-23 weekend.
Members
of classes from 1931 through 1976 gathered on campus, in the
homes of local alumni and at local restaurants and clubs to
reminisce about their college days. |

Alumni Association Elects
Two New Trustees
|
Two
new representatives from the Alumni Association were elected
this spring to soon begin service as members of the Winthrop
University Board of Trustees.
Frances Cunningham Davenport `59 of Clinton, S.C., and Jane Lawton
LaRoche `69 of Camden, S.C., will represent the association. The two
take the place of Mary Jean Martin `54 and Polly Ford `48, who will
be rotating off the board in June. Davenport will serve a six-year
term, while LaRoche will join the board for a four-year term.

New Belk Track Opens with Fanfare in March
A total of 21 track and field teams and their 800 college
student-athletes converged on Winthrop's new Irwin Belk Track March
31-April 1 for the 2006 Asics/Winthrop Track and Field Invitational.
Winthrop officials relished the university’s first meet on its new
track as a dream come true. Dedicated on Oct. 13, Winthrop’s outdoor
track has eight-lanes on the 400-meter oval which encircles a soccer
practice area, as well as event areas for the discus, hammer, dual
runways for the long jump, triple jump, high jump and pole vault.
