Nearly 30 Winthrop student-athletes participated in the 50-state
relay run for world harmony on April 25 as the 11,000-mile,
four-month journey found its way to the Rock Hill campus. The
students met with the representatives from World Harmony Run and
took turns carrying the lighted torch as they ran around Winthrop
Lake.

during an April 14 reception at the Winthrop Galleries. The event
was part of Big Friday, an alumni mini reunion for art and design
majors.

Political science majors Shalai Coakley and Willie Lyles III won the
top student awards presented by the Division of Student Life for
2006. Coakley of Mount Pleasant, S.C., took the Mary Mildred Sullivan
Award, while Lyles of Blythewood, S.C., captured the Algernon Sydney
Sullivan Award.

Winthrop senior James Shuler (right) played his final game against the
Tennessee Volunteers in the first round of the Big Dance in
Greensboro, N.C. The Eagles lost in the final seconds of the 63-61
thriller.

Winthrop’s largest student organization, the Association of Ebonites,
held their 30th anniversary concert on April 9. The office of Alumni
Relations is interested in forming an alumni interest group of
