The Division of University Advancement has been busy with
transitions and several new projects. Here are some quick updates to
let you know what is going on:
* Debbie Garrick was selected as the new executive director for the
Office of Alumni Relations. She will work with the executive board
and the university's 42,000 alumni, coordinating communications,
affinity group activities, class reunions, and annual events such as
Homecoming and the Alumni Reunion Celebration.
Garrick joined Alumni Relations in July 2004 as director of alumni
programs. The Neeses, S.C., native obtained her two degrees at
Winthrop — a B.A. in communications in 1987 and an M.Ed. in
counseling and development in 1989. She is currently pursuing
postgraduate work in higher education administration.
* Winthrop students recently wrapped up the Loyalty 2006 Phonathon,
with promises of pledges totaling more than $200,856.
More than 60 students contacted alumni and parents about Winthrop
activities and to solicit donations. Money raised will go toward
academic scholarships, rewards for outstanding faculty and staff,
and Alumni Association activities. This year’s phonathon was
coordinated by Kelly Ryan, a Winthrop senior who expects to graduate
in December.
If you made a pledge, please mail it in before June 30.
*Don’t forget to vote by 6 p.m. on April 3 for two representatives to
the Winthrop University Board of Trustees. Click here to visit the
