Winthrop sophomore
Elizabeth Van Dolah and fellow environmentalists planted 114 trees on
the Winthrop campus April 17. The event, “The Winthrop Tree Jubilee:
An ‘Earth Day’ Consumption Awareness Event,” focused on the
unnecessarily high rate of consumption of fossil fuels and other
natural resources in the United States. Van Dolah, a Charleston
resident who is double majoring in environmental studies and art, got
the idea for the event after attending the National Wildlife
Federation’s Women for Sustainable Development Initiative leadership
conference in January.
