Philosopher's Index Available only to Winthrop Community

The Philosopher's Index provides indexing and abstracts from books and journals of philosophy and related fields. It covers the areas of ethics, aesthetics, social philosophy, political philosophy, epistemology, and metaphysic logic as well as material on the philosophy of law, religion, science, history, education, and language.

Physical Education Index Available only to Winthrop Community

The surge of academic, professional and personal interest in the field of physical education has resulted in a huge volume of scholarly and trade literature. Since 1970 CSA Physical Education Index has been covering this vast collection of material. Records are indexed and classified from peer-reviewed journals, report literature, conference proceedings, trade magazines, patents, articles from the popular press, and many other publications. Beginning in January 2001, enhancements to the database include the addition of abstracts, e-mail addresses, expanded publisher and author information, and other data to facilitate access to the fulltext.

Available only to Winthrop Community PASCAL

Primary Search provides full text for more than 60 popular, magazines for elementary school research. All full text articles included in the database are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles), and full text information dates as far back as 1990. This database is updated daily on EBSCOhost.

Proceedings Available only to Winthrop Community

Citations of every congress, symposium, conference, exposition, workshop and meeting received at The British Library.

Proquest Electronic Thesis and Dissertations (ETD) Available only to Winthrop Community

ProQuest Nursing & Allied Health Source Available only to Winthrop Community PASCAL

PASCAL Funding Crisis
No longer available due to funding cuts. ProQuest Nursing & Allied Health Source provides users with reliable healthcare information covering nursing, allied health, alternative and complementary medicine, and much more. This versatile database is designed to meet the needs of researchers at healthcare facilities as well as nursing and allied health programs at academic institutions. ProQuest Nursing & Allied Health Source provides abstracting and indexing for more than 700 titles, with over 580 titles in full-text.

PsycARTICLES Available only to Winthrop Community

PsycARTICLES is a definitive source of searchable full text articles on current issues in psychology. The PsycARTICLES database covers general psychology and specialized, basic, applied, clinical and theoretical research in psychology. The database contains more than 35,000 searchable full text articles from 41 journals published by the APA and eight journals from allied organizations. It contains all journal articles, letters to the editor and errata from each of the 49 journals. Coverage now spans from 1987 to the present.  All journals included in this database are indexed in PsycINFO.

PASCAL Funding Crisis

This database provides coverage of more than 550 full text journals, including more than 525 peer-reviewed titles. Psychology & Behavioral Sciences Collection covers topics such as emotional and behavioral characteristics, psychiatry & psychology, mental processes, anthropology, and observational and experimental methods. Nearly every full text title included in this database is indexed in PsycINFO. This database is updated daily via EBSCOhost.

PsycINFO Available only to Winthrop Community

PsycINFO® contains citations and summaries of journal articles, book chapters, books, and technical reports, as well as citations to dissertations, all in the field of psychology and psychological aspects of related disciplines, such as medicine, psychiatry, nursing, sociology, education, pharmacology, physiology, linguistics, anthropology, business, and law. Journal coverage, spanning 1887-present, includes international material selected from more than 1,300 periodicals written in over 25 languages. Current chapter and book coverage includes worldwide English-language material published from 1987-present. Over 55,000 references are added annually through monthly updates.

PubMed

PubMed, a service of the National Library of Medicine, provides access to over 11 million MEDLINE citations back to the mid-1960's and additional life science journals. PubMed includes links to many sites providing full text articles and other related resources.

This database provides comprehensive full text coverage for regional business publications. Regional Business News incorporates coverage of 75 business journals, newspapers and newswires from all metropolitan and rural areas within the United States. This database is updated on a daily basis.

RILM Abstracts of Music Literature is an international bibliography of scholarly writings on music as well as music-related disciplines. Dating from 1967 through the present, this database offers indexing of sources published in over 140 languages.

ScienceDirect contains over 25% of the world's science, technology and medicine full-text and bibliographic information in both books and journal formats.

Journals: Over 1,900 authoritative titles. The collection includes high-impact-factor titles such as THE LANCET, Cell and Tetrahedron.

Journal Backfiles : A historical archive of titles from 1995 to the present.

Books: Winthrop does not subscribe to ScienceDirect books.


Science In Context (formerly Science Resource Center) Available only to Winthrop Community discussmall

Science Resource Center is an in-depth, curriculum-oriented science database that provides a one-stop resource for all science-related research needs. The Science Resource Center reflects curriculum trends and focuses on key concepts taught in school classrooms. Primarily designed for use in K-12 schools, but also useful for undergraduate science students. (Provided by DISCUS.)

Science.gov

Science.gov contains reliable information resources selected by federal government agencies as their best science information. Two major types of information are included—selected authoritative science Web sites and databases of technical reports, journal articles, conference proceedings, and other published materials. (The specific content varies by database.) The selected Web sites can be explored from the science.gov homepage. The Web pages and the databases can be searched individually or simultaneously from the search page.


SciFinder Available only to Winthrop Community

SciFinder retrieves information contained in databases produced by Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) as well as the MEDLINE® database from the National Library of Medicine. All records are in English. The CAplusSM  database contains over 30 million documents from over 10,000 journals and 150 countries, covering the literature from 1907 to the present. the MEDLINE database covers biomedical literature from more than 4,800 journals and 70 countries.

You must register with SciFinder to use the database. Click here and follow the instructions to register to use SciFinder. You will create your own username and password as part of the registration process. Registration must be done from an on-campus computer. Once you have registered, you may use SciFinder from off-campus.

SIRS Discoverer® Deluxe  Available only to Winthrop Community discussmall

Provides young researchers and readers with wealth of information on topics of high interest. Articles and graphics are selected for their educational content, interest and level of readability. The database also includes: Biographies of every U.S. president, complete information on more than 100 countries and Photo Essays depicting social issues and global concepts through visuals accompanied by brief text. Additional content databases included are: The World Almanac for Kids® and an encyclopedia.

Children now have safe and organized access to the best web sites using the new Discoverer WebFind component of SIRS Discoverer. Each web site linked from WebFind is evaluated for its research value, high interest, credibility, age-appropriateness and reliability. SIRS editors select sites that have content and text that is appropriate for elementary and middle school students. Sites that have banner ads, contain inappropriate text or images, or demand that visitors provide personal information are not included in WebFind. Children and their teachers and parents can locate sites of interest by subject, by keyword, or by browsing. Reading level of each site is indicated. Web sites of topical and seasonal interest are highlighted as "Top Picks" and monthly "Spotlights."

SocINDEX with Full Text is the world's most comprehensive and highest quality sociology research database. The index features more than 1,300,000 records with subject headings from a 15,600 term sociology-specific thesaurus designed by expert lexicographers. SocINDEX with Full Text contains full text for 242 "core" coverage journals dating back to 1895, and 72 "priority" coverage journals. The Baseball Index (TBI)

The Baseball Index (TBI) is a free catalog to baseball literature. It encompasses books, magazine articles, programs, pamphlets, films, recordings, songs, poems, cartoons, advertising, or anything else that may be of interest to the baseball fan or researcher. It is an ongoing project of the Bibliography Committee of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) to catalog the entirety of baseball literature, from the earliest references to the present day. TBI is the creation of volunteers. Their hours of work and financial contributions have made your TBI research possible.

Remember, TBI is an index to baseball literature. It is a guide to what has been written about baseball subjects. It does not include the full-text of the sources referenced.

Thomas Register on the Internet provides free "instant" sourcing information compiled within 60,000 industrial product heading categories with comprehensive specifications and availability information from thousands of manufacturers. You must register individually with the website before using Thomas Register.

Turnitin.Com Available only to Winthrop Community

Developed as a series of computer programs to monitor and discourage the recycling of research papers, Turnitin now provides electronic revision and grading of papers, an online grade book, and a calendar of assignments. In order to set-up courses in Turnitin, Winthrop University faculty must first contact Gale Teaster (323-2311 or teasterg@winthrop.edu) to obtain the University's user name and password. After 5:00 p.m., please contact the Reference Desk (323-4501).
