Reference CollectionThe Reference collection includes Dacus Library Online and the library's online catalog (DOC); various online, CD-based and print indexes; and reference books, including directories, encyclopedias, almanacs, telephone directories, atlases, and bibliographies. Most reference sources are for use in the library only. Online Ready Reference Resources is a Dacus Library Research Guide that identifies a variety of online dictionaries, encyclopedias and other ready reference resources. The Web-based Dacus Library Online provides access to a variety of online databases and electronic resources, and the Internet in addition to the library's book collection and journal subscriptions. Some of these online resources include: This resource provides access to 28 research and academic databases in a wide variety of disciplines. The databases are available only to Winthrop students, faculty and staff. This Web-based service provides access to 35 different indexes and databases covering thousands of general interest magazines and scholarly journals in all subject areas and magazines, journals, and newspapers in the areas of business, medicine, law, literature, science, and the social sciences. Many of the items retrieved include the full-text of the article. This database is available only to Winthrop students, faculty and staff. This LexisNexis database provides full-text access to hundreds of newspapers as well as numerous business, legal and government-related resources. This resource is available only to Winthrop students, faculty and staff. Other Online Indexes and DatabasesDacus Library Online provides direct links to over 100 online indexes and full-text databases. For a full listing, click on "Databases" . Library resource leaflets on a variety of topics are available on Dacus Library Online. For a full listing, click on "Research Guides". Local and state newspapers such as The Herald (Rock Hill), the Charlotte Observer, and The State (Columbia) maintain sites on the Internet useful for finding articles of interest. Another site, ABZY NewsLinks ( http://www.abzynewslinks.com ) directs users to other newspapers in the U.S. and worldwide. Some regional, national and internations newspapers are available full-text via LexisNexis Academic, Newsbank, and Custom Newspapers, which are available online to Winthrop students, faculty and staff. |
