Information Literacy

Winthrop University, recognizing the importance of information literacy in an increasingly complex society, endorses the definition of information literacy from the Association of College and Research Libraries in the report, Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education as a set of abilities requiring individuals to recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information. The sheer abundance of information will not in itself create a more informed citizenry without a complementary cluster of abilites necessart to use the information effectively.
