Borrowing Privileges
As a security measure, a Winthrop University identification card or a scheduled appointment is required to enter Dacus Library. Non-Winthrop patrons must either fill out the Dacus Research Application Form (available at the library entrance or see the Online Application Form) or schedule an appointment in advance. The following categories of library users are permitted to borrow books from the library under the stated conditions:

Winthrop University students currently enrolled. A current Winthrop University student I.D. card must be presented when borrowing books or videos.

Winthrop University faculty and staff. A current Winthrop University I.D. card must be presented when borrowing books.

Emeritus Winthrop University faculty. An Emeritus Winthrop University faculty I.D. card must be presented when borrowing books.

Retired Winthrop University employees. A Winthrop University retiree I.D. card must be presented when borrowing books.

Adjunct Winthrop University faculty. A Winthrop University adjunct faculty I.D. card must be presented when borrowing books.

Spouses and dependent children of faculty and staff. A Winthrop University dependent’s I.D. card may be obtained from Tillman Room 15.

Employees of Winthrop University campus ministries, the Winthrop University bookstore, and the campus food service company. Appropriate identification must be presented before a borrower’s privilege card will be issued.

Friends of Dacus Library. A Winthrop University Friends I.D. card must be presented when borrowing books. Entrance to the building requires a Winthrop identification card. Go to Friends home page

Winthrop University graduate students who have completed their course work and thesis credit, for one semester or summer term beyond their last enrollment. A letter from their major advisor must be presented before a borrower’s privilege card will be issued. Use of the library beyond one semester or summer term requires registration for additional thesis credit.

Employees of Federal and South Carolina State and Local agencies who need to use the library in the course of their employment. A letter from the agency head requesting the privilege and acknowledging responsibility for materials borrowed must be presented before a borrower’s privilege card will be issued. Privileges are granted for one year and may be renewed if not abused.

Teachers in the public schools who are supervising Winthrop education students in their field experience (student teaching). The College of Education provides a list of qualified teachers to the library each semester. Borrowing privileges are for one semester. A research application form is required before access may be obtained.
