Description: Investigating simple objects as cultural interfaces, Sonya Clark is drawn to objects that connect to her personal narrative: a comb, a piece of cloth or hair. Clark weaves and braids "everyday things" into a collective form of cultural identity. Clark is currently the chair of the Department of Craft/Material Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia and most recently was recognized as a United States Artist Fellow.
