Grant opportunities for undergraduate students
to conduct research.
1. Sigma Xi:
Grants-in-Aid of Research Program
Awarding research support to undergraduate and graduate students for 80
years. Most grants range from a few hundred dollars to $1,000.
Vision related or astronomy related research projects may be
awarded up to $2,500. Students apply online:

Submission deadlines: March 15 and
October 15
March 15 applicants will be notified about funding by the end of
May.
October 15 applicants will be notified about funding by the end
of December.
Checks are mailed as soon as possible after the notification
date.
2. CUR: Undergraduate
Summer Research Fellowships
The Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) awards summer
fellowships to the students of faculty members interested in
mentoring an undergraduate student at primarily undergraduate
institutions. CUR fellowships provide a unique opportunity for
undergraduate students and their faculty mentors to engage in
approximately ten weeks of full-time research at their home
institution.

National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program
The National
Science Foundation awards over 1,000 fellowships each year to
outstanding students in the science, technology, engineering,
and mathematics fields. Benefits include a an annual
stipend, annual cost-of-education allowance, and a
foreign travel allowance. The program operates on a
revolving cycle. The application is available beginning in
August, with deadlines in November (varying by field) and
announcement of awards each March. For more information,

The
Janice Chastain Houk Award for Undergraduate
Research
was created in 2007 by her husband and sons to honor her life
and memory. Two rewards will be presented annually, one to
a Biology student and one to a Political Science student.
