1. Summer
Undergraduate Research: University of Cincinnati College of
Medicine has several summer
programs that will help you get the experience you need to
prepare for graduate school in the College of Medicine and a
career in this expanding field. Each summer, the program brings
over 150 undergraduate students from all over the U.S. each
summer.

2. Texas Tech University's Summer
Accelerated Biomedical Research (SABR) Program
is designed to give undergraduate students biomedical research
experience in a laboratory at the Texas Tech University Health
Sciences Center. As a SABR intern, you will work for ten weeks
elbow-to-elbow with scientists on the cutting edge of biomedical
research. You will meet students to discuss late breaking news
in cell and molecular biology, biochemistry and molecular
genetics, physiology, pharmacology and neurosciences, and
medical microbiology. At the end of the summer, you will have a
chance to present your work to your peers and the scientists and
educators who work at the Health Sciences Center.

3. The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia
Non-traditional Personnel Research Program
is offering the opportunity for
undergraduate and graduate students to pursue research training
in their laboratories. Such individuals, commonly called
non-traditional research personnel (NTP), join Children's
Hospital and Hospital-based University of Pennsylvania faculty
in creating an environment in which research excellence can
flourish.

4. The National Institute of Diabetes and
Digestive and Kidney Diseases' (NIDDK) Office of Minority Health
Research Coordination (OMHRC)

5. Weill Cornell Medical School's The
Travelers Summer Research Fellowship Program For Premedical
Students is an opportunity
which gives 25 premedical students deeper insights into the
field of medicine, including issues that greatly affect the
health of traditionally underserved groups. Through the
experiences of laboratory or clinical research, the student
learns how one pursues a specific research problem under the
supervision of a faculty member, thus providing an early
educationinto basic research techniques that could be applicable
to any area of medicine.

6. Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical
Sciences's ACCESS Summer Research Program
is offering a Summer Internship Program for
Underserved College Students. The aim of the internship is to
awaken and foster an interest in biomedical research and
education. It is open to students who are interested in getting
a Ph.D. degree and who have excelled in their sophomore or
junior years in college.

7. John Hopkins University's JHU BioREU
is designed to provide an intensive, mentored research
experience for undergraduates, especially those attending
institutions with limited research opportunities. The focus of
the JHU REU is visualization of macromolecules in biological
research. Applicants must be enrolled at a two- or four-year
college or university.

8. The Leadership Alliance Summer Research
Early Identification Program (SR-EIP)
offers undergraduates, interested in
pursuing a Ph.D. or MD/Ph.D., the opportunity to work for eight
to ten weeks under the guidance of a faculty or research mentor
at a participating Alliance institution.This all expense paid
summer internship provides students with a competitive stipend,
travel, and housing.

12. The College of Graduate Studies at the
Medical University of South Carolina is currently accepting
applications for the Summer Undergraduate Research Program 2011
(SURP). SURP provides

17. John Hopkins University's Institute for
NanoBioTechnology is
offering NSF research experience for undergraduates in
nanotechnology for biology and medicine. Experience ten weeks of

University of Florida's NSF-Research Experience for
Undergraduate (REU) Program in Water Resources is
looking for juniors/seniors (and exceptional sophomores) with a
strong foundation in math and sciences and an interest in water
resources. Students will experience 8-weeks of research
experiences in quantifying water and energy demands of various

20. The UNC Charlotte
NanoSURE REU Program is designed to advance nanoscale
science re-search at the under-graduate level and contribute to
the education and training of the nanotechnology workforce of
the future. Nanoscale science research faculty from the
Departments of Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Optical Science,
and Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science will provide
well defined projects related to nanoscale science for all
participants. A ten-week summer research experience is
offered and includes a $4000 stipend for summer research, $500
allowance for research supplies, on-campus housing, seminars and
workshop activities, recreational activities, and a final

Programs at Oak Ridge National Laboratory are looking
for summer interns to work with world-class scientists on
cutting edge research! The Science Education Programs at Oak
Ridge National Laboratory offer several programs for
undergraduate students in STEM fields to participate in a summer

22. The
Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates in Environmental
Microbiology at UNLV is now accepting applications.
This NSF supported program provides undergraduates with an
opportunity to perform independent research under the guidance
of a faculty mentor. Students receive a $5,000 stipend ($500 per
week), travel subsidy, and complimentary housing in a UNLV
dormitory. The program dates are June 6 to Aug 12, 2011. The
on-line application at

for applications is Friday March 11, 2011. A complete
application includes a one-page career essay, transcripts, and
two letters of recommendation from science faculty.

The 2011 Annual South Carolina Academy of Science (SCAS)
Meeting will be held at South Carolina State University
in Orangeburg, SC, on Saturday, April 16. Any member of the SCAS
is eligible to present a paper at the meeting or attend the
meeting. In the past faculty, undergraduate and graduate
students have presented papers and/or posters. Registration for
the meeting is $25/-. The Abstract Submission Deadline
is March 11, 2011.
The SCAS mission is to promote the creation
and dissemination of scientific knowledge within the state of
South Carolina by stimulating scientific research and
publication. It is a wonderful opportunity to network with
