Mission
The minor in African American studies (AAMS) is an interdisciplinary program providing students with an intellectual base for understanding the multifaceted dimensions of the Black experience in the United States, Africa, and the African Diaspora.
Begun in 1992, the minor allows students of all races and ethnicities to deepen their knowledge of this underappreciated aspect of the human experience as well as examine the relationships between various kinds of cultures.
By broadening understanding, AAMS provides excellent preparation for working and living in the increasingly diverse world of the twenty-first century. Over the years, AAMS has attracted students from many different fields of study and complements all majors.
